HISTORY OF ATELIER FERLAND INC.

Atelier Ferland inc. began operations in September 1979. At the time, there were three shareholders. Gaetan Ferland is the founding president of the company.

During one year and a half, Gaetan and his wife Claire, were the only ones working in the shop. The main customers during the founding of the company; Waterville TG inc. and Eka chemicals Canada inc.

After one year and a half, Gaetan hired two employees, one of which, a shareholder, to meet the growing demand of the customers. Therefore, in 1980, there were 8 peoples employed by Atelier Ferland inc.
In 1983, Atelier Ferland founded the company Méca-Concept inc. The latter operated mainly in the field of specialized machinery design. The principal areas of interest were the design of machinery for the transformation of rubber products, wrapping, and wood.

In 1983 and 1984, Gaetan buys back the shares of the two other shareholders, making him the sole shareholder of the company.

During this time, the orders were continually increasing. To meet the growing demand, the company must increase its workforce. The number of employees increases from 16 to 24.

In 1988, a joint venture is formed with the Japanese firm "Shoshu Kogyo Co."

In 1991, the company merges with Méca-Concept inc. Therefore, from this moment on, the design is integrated as part of the daily operations of Atelier Ferland inc.

In 1995, The company workforce totals 42 full-time employees. All are from the area (Ayer's Cliff, Coaticook, Magog, Sherbrooke).

In 1998, Atelier Ferland inc. buys back the shares from Shoshu Kogyo Co. Gaetan is once again the sole shareholder of the company.

In 1999, Atelier Ferland inc. purchases a 15000 sq ft building in the Magog industrial district. The design, hard chrome and assembly departments are transferred to this new shop. This therefore ables the Ayer's Cliff shop to purchase new, latest technology machinery for the machining department.

The main areas of activity for the company from this moment on are machining and metal fabrication/welding. For the past few years, the company has many new customers located in the United States and Canada. The pulp and paper industry is an important part of the daily operations. Furthermore, the work orders are continually increasing.

Between 1981 to the present, there have been many expansions. This has meant that the workforce has grown to more than 55 full-time employees, and a two shift operation is in effect.
